South Australia Meeting Endorses Major Drainage Scheme
In Naracoorte on July 3 a landmark gathering of the Commissioner of Crown Lands the Treasurer and other legislators endorsed a vast drainage project. The engineer in chief outlined a plan to serve 1 700 000 acres with three new sea outlets. Annual rainfall is 287 500 000 cubic feet. The scheme requires 5 000 000 cubic yards of excavation and outlets with total capacity 4200 cubic feet per second. Estimated cost is 6288 750 with interest 11 500 to be covered by a tax of 1 638d per acre. the project was unanimously approved.

Labour and Liquor Debate at Wellington Conference

Fire destroys six room Aberdeen Street house in Christchurch
A six roomed Aberdeen Street house owned by Mr Baggot was totally destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. Miss Laggot claimed accidental cooking started the blaze. The building and furniture were valued at £476 with £200 building and £75 furniture insured in the National Office.
