The two brothers, former partners, have a history of minor conflicts. a £10 debt dispute is noted. Also advertised is a disposal sale of Border Leicester stud stock from the Clydesdale estate Otago at Clinton yards on July 18.
Captain Stott of the Northern Steam Company at Waitara says De Wolfe was seen there while the steamer paused. Before the wreck De Wolfe appeared very ill with influenza but showed no intoxication. A witness contradicted claims of De Wolfe drinking with Captain Blacklock at Waitara.
