London report notes breakdown of England telegraph system following a severe storm. Underground cables are proposed with lines already in use London to Birmingham and being extended north. Lord Rosebery as President of the Birmingham and Midland Institute urged three or four crumbs of advice. He warned against vague undigested reading and urged individuals and the nation to cultivate independent thought political training and divine discontent so Britain could maintain its place. He spoke of a nation capable of indefinite possibilities with training intelligence and determination.
Mr Robert Wm Hanbury told the Farmers' Club in London that Britain sacrificed agriculture fifty years ago to build manufacturing and now faces shrinking markets. He urged greater governmental support, noting the world market is closing. Mr Henry Chaplin urged restoring a grain duty of 1s.
