In Christchurch on December 22 William H D Newth was fined five pounds plus costs for using the abbreviation Dr in a public Window ad that could mislead readers into thinking he held medical qualifications under the Medical Practitioners Act. The defendant claimed no NZ title but boasted 83 years of practice in America. The magistrate said he condemned so called quacks using the term to imply proper qualification.
