In the week ended December 13, 1913 the Ashburton grain market remained inactive with no major inquiries. Wheat remains in small supply, mills buying all offered, Tuscan quotes about 3s7d to 3s8d on trucks, oats in low demand, and prime chaff grades 70s to 72s Od on rail at country stations.
In Christchurch on December 12 buyers show strong interest in wheat but holders resist discounts with 1s at country stations. Pearl commands that price though scarce. Other trades are quiet as rust hits wheat and oat crops. Heavy rain may check activity but further moisture could worsen prospects for farmers mills and merchants.
The Ashburton branch of the New Zealand Warmers' Co operative Association held a horse fair at West Street Marton on Friday. A good show attracted 40 horses to auction but demand was weak. Draughts included a 4 year bay gelding £29 and a Tyra mare £30, while hacks saw a black mare £3 10s and chestnut mare £12.

National Mortgage and Agency Co of Naz are joint agents. Also sale notices for Bullock's Bazaar December 29 1913 with multiple blocks and acreage up for auction.
Friedlander Bros Ltd announces a complete clearing sale in conjunction with R Forsyth and H L Barker. Items include sheep, ewes, lambs, horses, draughts, implements, grain drill, harrows, woolpress, feeders, sacks, seeds, chaff, gear, and a 6 hp Aveling traction engine. Sale inspected at West Street and Burnett Street Ashburton with luncheon provided.
Henry Stephenson offers up to date dwellings with six rooms water service electric light and pantries in Allenton and Alford Forest. various 4 to 10 room houses on several acreages offered for sale or lease with option to purchase. also building sections in town and suburbs and loan and insurance services provided.
Local notices list allotments including Burnett Moore and Kermode Streets with acreages from 1 to 4. Streets mentioned include Dobson River Terrace Cameron and Dobson. Netherby and Wakanui Road areas are noted for building allotments.
The notice lists wool sale dates at Christchurch on Thursday February 12, and at Timaru on Friday December 19, plus Saturday January 24 and Wednesday February 25. The seller also offers woolpacks branding oils and twine currently in stock.
