Six Month and Twelve Month Sentences From New Zealand Supreme Court

In Auckland Walter Henry David Scott, an habitual offender, received twelve months for a false pretence described as paltry and despicable. In Dunedin Henry Pollock was acquitted on some charges but jailed twelve months for receiving stolen property. Joseph Living pleaded guilty to theft and received six months.

Magpie Publisher Cleared Over Cartoons

In Dunedin on December 12 the Police Court dismissed an assault charge against marine engineer W R Waters after ruling the cartoon about his sisters in Alloo's paper the Magpie was provocative. The inform tion was dismissed by the magistrate.

Oamaru Woollen Factory declares 8 percent dividend

At the annual meeting in Oamaru on December 12 the Oamaru Woollen Factory Company passed a dividend of 8 percent for the year. £1500 was added to the reserve now £8500, and £474 written off premises and plant. £554 spent on new fast looms. The chairman said business was good and prospects for a very successful year ahead.

Rotorua Steamer Arrives in Wellington on Maiden Voyage

The Rotorua, 11 500 tons, of the New Zealand Shipping Company, arrived from Plymouth after a 42 day 20 hour maiden voyage averaging over thirteen knots. Captain Sutcliffe, who brought the vessel out, has completed sixty four NZ England crossings.
