Fires at Fitzroy Bacon Factory and Alton Street Home

At Fitzroy Bacon Factory in New Plymouth fire at 6 90 morning gutted main building but smoke room and machinery saved. Insurance on building £300 with Commercial Union and £850 Guardian, on machinery £100 with Commercial Union and £150 Guardian. Loss to building likely exceeds insured. Cause unknown. Factory recently taken over by Mr Ingley. In Nielson, at 3 00 morning a seven room house on Alton Street gutted near Central School. Owned by J Bennett, occupied by Arthur Austin Tobacconist. Fire began in back room. cause unexplainable. Only two bicycles, a sewing machine and odds and ends saved. Insurance: £950 house with South British, £16 Norwich Union and £20 Royal on furniture.
