The Salving of a Derelict Chapter He Keeps Afloat

Laurence Averill fights a brutal onboard assault on a trawler deck. He overcomes a foe with a clinch and throat grip, while bystanders watch with muted interest. The scene ends as he learns crew tension and a boy named Willam Clitheroe joins him. The mood mixes danger with grim resolve aboard the Firth of Forth.

Auction bid dispute over Irish horse sale before Dunedin justices

Quaife sued Simpson for the bid on a trotting horse at auction after Simpson repudiated the bid. Christie appealed a magistrate ruling. Supreme Court reversed, holding it illegal for an auctioneer to take a vendor bid and deny the action, and that the vendor’s own bidding invalidated the sale. The appeal was allowed with costs.

Massey Charges McNab Link to Land Syndicate

In Papakura on Tuesday night the speaker accused Mr McNab of involvement with a land syndicate that profited from a Wellington district block known as Makerea Swamp. He claimed the syndicate, once owned by the Manawatu Railway Company, had drained and sold land for settlement with large gains. He named Robert McNab as a member and challenged McNab to sue for slander to prove the allegation.
