At Addington livestock market Christchurch on December 4 large entries of store sheep and fair attendance. Fat cattle stable. fat ewes and rams largely unchanged. Brisk demand for store sheep and export lines, with prices similar to prior week. Beef sale brisk with several notable consignments from Little River and Riccarton. store cattle steady. Pigs show slack demand and lower prices across baconers porkers and stores.
Reports from the Agricultural Department note uncertainty over potato blight in the Hutt Valley. Growers report widespread damage, with some blaming Bordeaux mixture and others citing seed origins or pests. Spraying and early care are urged to combat the suspected disease.
