Sumner's Water System May Need Modernisation
In a letter dated March 5 1908 Sumner New Zealand reports that artesian wells supply Sumner and Clifton via a Shag Rock reservoir. The system lifts 50000 gallons from five artesian wells 100 feet high and Clifton 213 feet, costing about £1000 annually, with expanding demand and limited water-bearing strata. The mayor is urged to consider improvements and avoid power costs by gravitating supply.
