The Trades and Labour Councils Federation opened in Christchurch with delegates from Christchurch Dunedin Southland South Canterbury Auckland and East Coast. A proposal to amalgamate New Zealand Federation of Labour and the Trades and Labour Council was supported and a telegraphic call made to arrange a joint conference to pursue merger.

Wright, Stephenson and Co report Donald Macdonald of Edendale Estate disperses a large Clydesdale stud in an event described as among the most successful in New Zealand. The sale drew wide representation from Australia and the North Island with all 90 horses sold and strong mare demand for the Australian market.
