Napier Gaol to Close as New Zealand Reforms Prisons
Wellington April 14 The Government, following Minister of Justice Dr Findlay's recommendation, will close Napier gaol along with others deemed unnecessary. Costs of maintenance and meagre prisoner earnings under 1907 1908 1909 figures justify dissolving the facility. A police gaol will replace it for awaiting trial and short sentences.
