A late night blaze in Hastings Square Spring Lake destroys the Monmouth Carlton and Exset hotels and many cottages. Damage is estimated around 350000 to 860000 with extensive losses to owners including Mrs Urie and C L Taylor. Fire spread aided by a north wind and drew help from Asbury Park Manasquan Belmar Avon and Long Branch.

Death of famous steamboat owner Hincox at 88
The oldest steamboat owner in the county, Thoseph W. Hincox, died Monday night in an Asbury Park hotel at age 88 after a stomach ailment. Born in Boston Conn, he began river work at twelve and rose to superintendent on the Hudson. He owned several boats including the Commodore Hancock and connected vessels. He served on the Jersey City board of farmers and in the state legislature opposing prohibition. He is survived by a widow, a son Reverend Martin Hancox, and a daughter Mrs. George Wuppermann. funeral held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Mt Zion Sanctuary, Jersey City.

The Asbury Park High School opened for the fall term with full class enrollment. Eighty-two students are in the high school as the first week focuses on organization and classification and seating assignments. New desks and complete cooking facilities with gas stoves and drawers are installed. Miss Barris will oversee the department, ready in about a week.
