H Wallace Bennett of Red Bank obtained a decree of divorce from Nettle E Bennett. The couple wed November 14, 1886 in Asbury Park and lived in Red Bank and Newark before desertion and shifting affections led to the split. Bennett accuses his wife of being enamored with jeweler Charles Chatwin of Irvington and living in Newark to be near him.
Joseph A Matthews of Oak Glen near Freehold, a hamlet of six to eight houses, survived two life threatening gunfire incidents within a week. The first occurred Tuesday night as he arrived from Farmingdale in his barnyard, a bullet struck the wagon and glanced off. Three nights later a shot was fired near a wood between the Ask Gien chapel and the schoolhouse as he walked home, a pursuer he spotted and chased for half a mile through the woods.
The Treasury Department informs Senator William J. Sewell of New Jersey that his bid to permit carrying petroleum oils on the Philadelphia Camden ferry boats is denied as a violation of section 4,472 of the revised statutes. The same section also bans carrying gasoline automobiles on passenger ferries when their tanks hold gasoline or naphtha.
The Geath Roll Frank Fell son of Lawrence T Fell a director in the Monmouth Truat Company of Asbury Park died at his late home in Orange yesterday aged 28. The funeral will be from his residence 159 Main Street Orange next Monday at 9 80 am. Interment will be in St Johns Cemetery Grange. Fell was well known in Asbury Park having spent time here in the vicinity.
William Macdonald overseer of the poor filed a complaint accusing John Hendrickson of failing to support his wife. He asked for a postponement to Monday to produce witnesses, and the magistrate granted the request. Miss Cora Sherman of 711 Summerfield avenue Asbury Park is mentioned as an advertising note.

One year ago today the Atkins avenue road was accepted by freeholders. George Smith owner of the Washing ton House in West Park was acquitted of atrocious assault on Lavinia Harman. Congregational Church Council findings in New York reading on Rev. Howard T. Widdemer resignation were presented. Widdemer described as eloquent preacher and energetic. Druggist T Allison White of Ocean Grove died.
Mr and Mrs Longstreet Harvey celebrated their sixty fifth wedding anniversary at their Eatontown home with fifty three family members across four generations in attendance. Today the Harveys mark birthdays, the husband turning eighty four and the wife seventy nine.
Savonel Perrine Voorhees, superintendent of the Freehold public water and sewer system, died yesterday morning of heart disease. He collapsed downstairs and died in a chair, at age 44, leaving four children. He was a public official and neighbor to the Poe bank building. Office hours 9 to 9. Read Creeble's ad on page 7.
