Fraudulent use of Howell's name in land swindle
James Freeman, a Orange real estate dealer, was approached by two men posing as Congressman B. F. Howell and T. Ely Schanck of the People's National Bank of New Brunswick. They offered to buy Freeman's land for 5000 in good money, claimed winnings from a gambling machine, and attempted to keep the payment. Freeman declined by handing the money back, and the pair disappeared. Detective William Allen is tracking the suspects with a watch in Orange.

Free lights for theatre manager discussed by council
The Atlantic Coast Electric Light Company agreed to furnish lights for the Second Precinct police station at Educational Hall but a theatre manager was accused of misusing them. City officials will notify Superintendent Clark and hall owner Mr. Bradley. The council also set March work on Heck street, added a post office building study committee, and ordered back tax warrants for 1895 96 and 07 to Magistrate Borden.

Road settlement settled between Asbury Park and Neptune Township
Under a city council resolution Asbury Park agrees to pay Neptune Township twelve thousand four hundred fifty one dollars and eighty one cents for its share of the ma cédania road bonds. The first payment is two thousand four hundred fifty one eighty one and annual payments of one thousand plus five percent interest follow.
