Asbury Park Board of Trade discusses purchasing the eastern beach strip and placing perpetual liquor restrictions in the deed. Supporters urge safeguards to prevent saloon sales, while opponents warn against overreaching controls and urge public input before conveyance.
Mrs Esther M Hanshe wife of Alex Henshe of West Munroe Avenue died this morning at home aged 59. Funeral service set for Tuesday at 2 PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Wilbur, will press Washington to purchase the structure, keeping the site in the city. The post office building, once built by the Asbury Park National Bank, is now owned by the Mutual Life Insurance Co. of New York.
Long Branch and Red Bank appear sole contenders for the Monmouth County football cup as Asbury Park declines a series with Long Branch. Oreos manager Harry Rushton says he will arrange games with Long Branch and Red Bank to decide the title, with Saturday dates unavailable.
The Common Council must decide whether to fund and maintain beach sun parlors through winter and spring. The Board of Trade proposed a three member committee to urge city action, arguing taxpayers would benefit from municipal maintenance rather than private contributions.
