Charter Fire Threatens Masonic Charter in Appleby Hall
Mrs Jobo Britton found smoke in the Junior American Mechanics hall on the Appleby building third floor. Constable Theodora Hulick and others extinguished a small fire caused by a burning rheostat near two windows, damaging the framed charter of Corinthian Commandery Knights of the Golden Eagle. Daniel L Dodge died suddenly of apoplexy Saturday afternoon at his home 610 Fourth Avenues. He fell unconscious and expired within half an hour despite a physician's attempts to revive him. Coroner Flock was summoned but an inquest deemed unnecessary. He was 69 and leaves a widow.

Wesley Doremus of West Park was acquitted Wednesday in Freehold of stealing $15 from Frank Woolley at a West Park dive. Woolley testified he became drunk and slept, but the jury did not believe his story. The case was documented in the Journal.
