London reports Buller’s slow progress as Pretoria remains in British sights. Rhodes criticizes overestimated Boer strength while surveys of Kimberley and Mafeking fortify British stance and signals for a spring advance.
The republics petition mediation from Anatria Hungary and Switzerland with German consular oversight. General Gatacre finds Boers fled Bloemfontein as Rhodes voices distrust of federation and crowns colonial governance. The Orange River bridge is finished and British forces cross onto Free-State soil.
In Nep tune township elections for road overseers the Democrats won. In West Grove Christopher Garrity received 125 votes to James J. McLaughlin 98, a 27 vote margin. West Park saw William Reynolds win 818 to William Ford 815, a margin of 3 votes. Hamilton district elected James M. Elmer over Denole White, and North Hamilton Eastwood Aliedhway district saw the opposition prevail.

The Asbury Park bill to permit municipal ownership of an electric lighting plant was recalled from the Istter body and returned to the house. Leader Wakelee of Bergen seeks to amend to exclude towns in his county while Assemblyman Mungle's bill allowing city owned plants passed the house. If Kirkbride’s bill fails, Asbury Park could use the Mungle measure applicable to Newark.
Colonel George B M Harvey now placed in charge of the Harper Brothers Publishing Company will sail for Europe next week to visit the London branch and to close contracts with several authors Grénelle's German Dyspepsia Cure is advertised at 50 cents in the period.

A new measure introduced Friday would create a city beach and parks commission to manage beaches and parks. The bill, No 811, sets a three-member commission appointed by the mayor with council consent, with initial terms of one two and three years, plus a sinking fund for bond repayment. Chairman Bradley expects quick committee action to pass before the session ends. Local residents can get the Daily Journal from Bradley Beach outlets or by carrier for six cents a week.
Morris Kederiskey, a Cobble shop owner known as K. Morris, seeks to have his surname changed to Morris through Assemblyman Samuel Y Kirkbride. He wants his family name updated to Morris after years of misidentification and jokes about the initial K. His petition asks the legislature to grant the change to Morris for himself and his children.
A series of meetings for secret orders in Asbury Park and Vidorty is listed for this evening. Asbury Council No 25 Daughters of America, and Carpenters Union meet at 8. The eleventh anniversary of Asbury Council No 23 JO UAM was celebrated at Ocean Grove high school with New York entertainers and the high school orchestra. Maurice A Rogers of Camden spoke on virtue liberty and patriotism and New Jersey membership around 82000. Township Collector William Giffard reviewed the council’s history.

Dr Ballard argues that the ocean boulevard bill would allow horse racing inside camp meeting grounds. He cites Rev Dr Edmund Hewitt who recalls racing on Long Branch sabbaths and warns the boulevard's extension could enable Sunday racing. The Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association and its president oppose the measure.
A special election will be held in Allenhurst in the council chamber on Monday from 6 AM to 7 PM. Voters decide whether to issue bonds totaling 42000 to fund and purchase an electric lighting plant. The target facility is currently operated by the Allenhurst Electric Light and Power Company for borough illumination and commercial use.

W. A. Reynolds of Asbury Park was convicted at Freehold on Wednesday of embezzlement from the American Wiring Company. His counsel will appeal. Reynolds represented the company at Asbury Park and was tried twice before, with juries disagreeing each time.
Prosecutor Helsley at Freehold proved service of a writ of execution to collect the forfeited bond of Jobo K. Parker, formerly of this place, after no one appeared to object and no court action was taken to halt the collection.

Nathan Musher, a New York passenger aboard the Cunard Lucania, was arrested on the Queenstown tender on a New York forged identity warrant. He used the alias Goldberg and will be arraigned locally before extradition to London.
Secretary Long cabled Admiral Watson to send a warship to Taku China at the mouth of the Peiho river to protect American missionary interests under threat. He left the ship selection to Admiral Watson.
