Asbury Park begins its summer season with new attractions on the oceanfront. Bartow's band played a large opening concert at the pavilion drawing a big crowd. The Ross's pavilion area has been overhauled with a two story bath house, 81 bath rooms and a 42 by 80 foot salt water pool, plus extensive lighting and dining facilities amid new gardens and booths ready for guests.

Appeals Court Affirms City in Harcourt Case
Rev Richard Harcourt challenged Asbury Park city ordinances at the New Jersey Supreme Court in Trenton after a verdict favoring the city. On November 4, 1897, Harcourt was fined 825 for failing to light a pile of building material on the sidewalk at Fifth Avenue and Heck Street per permit under ordinance No 12. He claimed injustice and took the matter to the high court.
