Oreos Triumph Over Silent Five In Early Era Showdown

The Oreos defeated the Silent Five of New York 14 to 10 on Saturday night. The first half ended 8–0 with the Oreos dominant under 1900 rules, while the Silent Five rallied after a rest under the newer rules. No serious injuries reported. future challenges include Yale and Princeton.

Annexation Bill Considered by Asbury Park Panel

The Asbury Park annexation committee plans tonight’s meeting at the law office of David Harvey Jr to discuss annexing West Park to Asbury Park. Harvey will draft a bill for the Legislature to empower both municipalities to incorporate with a referendum allowing residents of West Park and Asbury Park to vote on the issue.

State Considers Commission to Oversee Water Supply

Dr J M W Kitchen of East Orange has prepared a bill for the current Legislature to create a commission to inquire into placing the states potable water supply under public control for the benefit of the people. The bill will be introduced by Assemblyman Williams.

Trolley schemes expand toward sea coast network

Fire Causes Brief Alarm at Local Residence

Vast Matawan Fire Ravages Business District Early Sunday

A major blaze in Matawan destroyed half a dozen buildings in the business section, causing about $100,000 in losses. Fire crews from Matawan and Keyport fought the flames as new fires started behind Shepherd's grocery and near residences on Broad and Main streets. Residents armed themselves for protection, with Insurance losses concentrated in Edward I. Brown's three properties and the Opera House portion owned by F. P. Simpson, among others. none of the losses were fully insured. Brown, son of Ocean Grove Warden Brown, also owns the Brown block in Asbury Park.

Bishop McFaul Preached On Faith At Holy Spirit

Right Rev. James A. McFaul, bishop of the diocese, preached at the Church of the Holy Spirit yesterday. He led the eight o clock mass and gave a sermon on Faith. The annual report showed receipts of $7,000 for the year. Over $1,700 was raised by the vaudeville performance in the old opera house last summer. Six hundred dollars came from the fall in Educational Hall two months ago.

Monmouth Driving Club Announces Big Purses at Elkwood Park

Monmouth Driving Club president Dr H H Kana says a series of trotting meetings will be held next summer at Elkwood Park a mile track. Purses totaling 5000 are planned for a late August big meet with top trotters and pacers invited. Opening is expected July 1.

Belmar Boy Pleads Guilty for Window Breakage Incident

In Monmouth County Court Judge Heisley hears Charles De Roche, fourteen, son of Edward De Roche of Freehold, plead guilty for breaking a window of a Pennsylvanian Railroad passenger car on December 8. Mayor W. B. Jackson of Belmar, nearby, suffered a facial cut from flying glass. The judge imposes a cautious lecture and places the youth on probation until May 7 upon good behavior.
