Freeholders Open New Bridge Over Deal Lake
The iron bridge over Deal Lake opened to the public on Tuesday at noon. Mr E P Benjamin and wife were first to cross, then Freeholders inspected the structure, praising its design and workmanship. The Berlin Iron Bridge Company built it for 24950 dollars, 500 feet long with a 32 foot roadway and six foot sidewalks, lit by 36 lamps.

Poorwaster Ryerson found a life insurance policy for 125 dollars, a City Bank of Indianapolis bankbook with 4000 dollars, and store goods worth 500 dollars. Alberta’s Christmas tree to honor Ayres daughter
Alberta the only daughter of Mr and Mrs Eugene Ayres of 703 Sixth avenue was honored with a ten foot Christmas tree in Asbury Park. The tree glowed with glittering traces glass beads and colored balls. A small playhouse with bay windows stood nearby amid grassy scenery including sheep pasturing a pump and gravel paths. Mr Ayres, conductor of the Philadelphia express, spent three weeks decorating the tree and playhouse.

One of Asbury Park's most successful sociables, the leap year dance and reception hosted by the Ariel Cycless Club at Grand Avenue Hotel on Monday night. Loss of the ferry New Brunswick on the Jersey City route
The Pennsylvania Railroad ferryboat New Brunswick burned to the water’s edge early Monday. Eight fire boats responded but could not save the vessel. The charred hull sank after towing to the Communipaw slate. Built in 1858 for about 150000, she previously burned in 1888, was rebuilt, and is to be repaired and recommissioned.

German Baker Drowns Crossing Ice on Christmas Day
Gottlieb Hierner a German baker of Red Bank drowned across the river after he wagered a bottle of wine that he could cross the ice. He nearly reached the opposite shore before stepping on fragile ice and sinking. Bystanders tended his body but he was dead on extraction. He left a wife and a brother.
