Patten Line Expands Service With New 210 Foot Steamboat
The Patten line plans eight improvements to freight and passenger service between New York and Pleasure Bay next season. Atlantic Coast Electric Railway will cooperate to extend facilities to Asbury Park. A new 210 foot steamboat built in Newburg, N.Y., will serve both freight and passengers, boosting the fleet to five and entering service June 1. A large freight car with double trucks and four meters is under construction to handle shipments with existing smaller cars. The Patten line reports a marked rise in business over the past two years, with high demand for water transit to Asbury Park despite dredging work between Sea Wright and Highland Reach to clear mid and sand. The dredging will continue indefinitely.
