Wesley Engine Company hosted a successful reception at the Beach Auditorium with Voas’s twelve piece orchestra and guests numbering in the hundreds. Supper by W A Golhaus and decor by Laggren Ball highlighted an elegant event where 750 couples opened with a grand march led by McQubs and wife of Ocean Grave, followed by a long dance into the early morning hours with guests in formal attire.

No Quorum as Council Fails to Meet Again
The council failed to form a quorum Monday night though eight members could have met the requirement. Wilbur and Kirkbride lingered until 9 pm with Clerk Burroughs and Chief Smith present. Old Jersey City Lawyers Ordered to Pay Claimants
Vice-Chancellor Emory issued four decrees compelling Babbitt and Lawrence to pay Hawkins and Durand 1300 dollars with interest from 1887. The Sheldon House failure spurred the action, with Edward McClain and Dominick Duprat holding chattel mortgages. McClain and Duprat were to receive portions of proceeds, but were underpaid. Hawkins and Durand now seek owed sums totaling about 2000 dollars.

The Asbury Park Committee sent two barrels of clothing one barrel of oatmeal three boxes of food and six dollars in subscriptions to Cuba. Supplies will reach their destination next week and were contributed by numerous residents and local groups including Mrs Cooper Mrs Boynton Mrs Winston and others. Freight was donated by William H. Vansant.

Freeholders Review Bridge Work and Road Matters
At the monthly meeting the Shark river bridge committee said it accepted improvements and paid Dean Westbrook for the balance of the contract. The road committee approved a gravel upgrade from Turkey to Lower Squankum seven miles long, with seven named property owners backing the effort. A murder investigation panel was formed with Musare Butcher Snyder Ericsson F E Heyer and J H Boyer, and the full board will reconvene February 23 to review the road project.

Freeholders Rule Against Mrs Munkin in Bridge Injury Suit
In Monmouth County New Jersey Mrs Marie Munkin sought 35000 damages after claiming a hole on Seabright drawbridge caused injuries. Defenders argued the hole was very small and could not admit a foot or leg. Judge Nevins in Jersey City ruled for the defendants.
