St Paul refloats after ten days aground at Long Branch
The St Paul was pulled off the beach opposite the Grand View Hotel on January 25 after ten days aground. Tug teams and wrecking companies, led by Merritt and Chapman, hauled the vessel clear as tides rose, moving her 200 feet and finally into deep water. Officials estimate salvage costs could reach 100000 dollars, with a full investigation promised and a likely Southampton voyage within two weeks.
