Miners killed and floods plague Wilhelmsglack area

Reports describe a deadly explosion at Wilhelmisglack in Schwabigchhall and battles near Wartemburg. Twelve miners died and others injured as floods devastated rivers and towns, forcing rescues and troop movements. Transactions in Monmouth County include numerous property transfers to Asbury Park, Ocean Grove, and Middletown.

Washington House Passes Fortifications and Pensions Bills

The House advanced to passage the Fortifications and the Pensions Appropriation bills. The Fortifications bill allocates 59,406,000 and pensions funding totals were outlined. The Agriculture Committee discussed abolishing the Bureau of Agriculture, a longtime expense concern. Petty thieves plague Parkerville in recent depredations

From the Bed Bank Blasdard report. Petty thieves commit multiple depredations at Parkerville. Rev J E Lake loses celery crop stored for winter. On Sunday Capt and Mrs Griggs of Port Monmouth were unhurt after a fright caused their horse to bolt and throw them from a broken wagon in churchgoing aftermath.

Family reunion framing at Keyport after years apart

In Keyport a young woman was found by a wealthy father after long estrangement due to domestic troubles, while Elmer Walling, son of Sidney Walling, was wounded in the eye feeding a cow and taken to a New York eye infirmary. About 400 bushels of cranberries were harvested from Ryer bog near Mount Pleasant as the Keyport oyster season winds down with two shipments remaining to New York.
