District Court Judge Frank Zion denied the bid to block a Tucson Gas & Electric Co. power line through western New Mexico. He also issued a temporary injunction barring construction or rights of way acquisition pending further action. The ruling upholds the New Mexico Public Service Commission decision. The Environmental Improvement Agency and Navajo members argued the act required an environmental impact study, but the judge found the act did not apply to the PSC acting in a quasi‑judicial capacity.
A 22 year old Flagstaff man, Joe Martinez, was arrested after marijuana was found under the front seat of his car following a traffic stop. Officer Mike Eickmeyer said Martinez, of 3103 N Grandview, smelled of marijuana and consented to a search.

Supervisors Monday will receive bids on 200000 in bonds for Page elementary and high schools. Voters approved a 2 million bond issue last year to add classrooms and facilities. only 900000 was spent per district with 100000 reserved for finish work. Agenda includes planning and zoning items, bids for Juvenile Department sedan, subdivision improvements with Mountaineaire residents, Forest Lakes Water District boundary rehearings, and monthly departmental audits plus county finances. The $26,100 joint contract funds new Sedona dispatchers and a deputy under Forest Service supervision. From November 1 to June, 40 personnel plus a patrol car and five radios would be provided, connecting Forest Service and Sheriff radio networks for improved southeast county and lands within the forest. An escapee from San Quentin Prison was arrested by Arizona patrolman Jim Stevenson about six miles south of here. George Henry, in a car with two others, was stopped for suspected drunken driving and surrendered to Coconino County Jail for California authorities. Henry was serving a five year to life term for robbery prison break and perjury.
Nathanial Perchard, 37, of Phoenix, received 25 to 28 years in Arizona State Prison after pleading guilty to a $120 robbery of the Westward Ho Hotel and to assaulting an officer. Judge Warren McCarthy imposed the sentence in Maricopa County Superior Court. Clarence Lewis also pleaded guilty and faces sentencing on Oct 4.
H L Hopkins tells Flagstaff police a $75 watch was taken from his room at the Cannon Hotel. He left the hotel for about three hours and believes the staff key may have been in the lock. No other leads are available.
The Coenaino Sportsmen Club letters accuse the Forest Service of a real estate, proprietary role rather than safeguarding forests in Coconino National Forest. They object to increased logging, plans for 19 miles of new roads, and 321 miles of road improvement, arguing better access would drive game away.
