Washington AP reports W A Tony Boyle former United Mine Workers Union head remains near death after an apparent suicide attempt on the eve of a court appearance. The 71 year old ousted union boss was rushed to George Washington University Hospital in coma as doctors noted severe health problems including heart disease emphysema and hypertension. His murder conspiracy case involves the 1969 slayings of Joseph A Jock Yablonski and his wife and daughter. his hearing was postponed to October.
Dr. Richard 8. Kirkendall executive secretary of the Organization of American Historians will deliver an Honors Forum talk on Harry Truman and the Cold War at 7 p.m. Monday in the NAU auditorium. He is a noted author editor and specialist in agricultural history with extensive public service and teaching at Missouri and Indiana universities.

A 51 year old Flagstaff man, William Zick, faced felony charges after allegedly writing a $165 bad check to pay a driving while intoxicated fine. The City Police filed the check insufficiency case, with arraignment scheduled in Flagstaff Justice of the Peace Court today.
A two bedroom frame house in Mountainaire was gutted by a Tuesday afternoon fire driven by gusty winds. Mountainaire and Kachina Village Fire Departments joined the Coconino National Forest fire control officer Bill Buck in containing the blaze and preventing spread to nearby homes as children were seen playing with rocket fireworks nearby. Authorities warn that dry forests and absence of rain have raised fire danger and remind the public fireworks are prohibited.
Dean Robert Bishop and wife Diane Leslie, both of Flagstaff, were arraigned on felony possession of marijuana and dangerous drugs charges. Arrest followed Monday by Patrolman James T. McCann. Bond set at 3900 dollars each. they posted and were released. Preliminary hearing date to be scheduled.
