Dr. Robert Smith 60 native of Paisley Scotland collapsed Friday at NAU South Academic Center and died at Flagstaff Community Hospital. Funeral 4 p.m. Monday at Federated Community Church Flagstaff. Mortuary handling arrangements. Survived by wife Sara Russel and daughter Sara Helen. Donations to Flagstaff Salvation Army.
John Aleman a pioneer Arizona sheep rancher died Friday night in Williams. Services are pending at Walker Funeral Home. A Spanish Basque immigrant who arrived in Winston in 1914, he worked for several sheep companies before co owning Cross Mountain Sheep Co. later forming Lifernet and a new company with his son John Jr. The Alemans wintered in Buckeye. Frances, president of the National Wool Growers Association, and two grandchildren are noted.
A three judge federal court ruled Arizona's 50 day voter registration cutoff before an election unconstitutional renewing voting rights for the 1972 general election. Authorities report a burglary in Flagstaff where a Ruger 22 Magnum pistol valued at $100 was stolen from a residence.

Four men were arrested in Reno in connection with the 178 500 Harrah's Tahoe casino robbery at Lake Tahoe earlier this week. Suspects Jack Andrew Cozad 37 Donald Leroy Rice 39 both of Stateline Nevada Thomas Richard Norman 36 of Reno and Larry Joseph Swinberg 36 of South Lake Tahoe California remain jailed. The money was not recovered and the investigation continues.
A 5 year old Phoenix man died early today from a heart attack at the KOA Campground. Flagstaff police identified the victim as Bergamin Levio. Officer Bill Copeland, en route to the area, encountered a person flagging him down and found the victim. Levio was pronounced dead at 7 10 am by Dr Thomas Renry.
Lena Yazzie Maxine Taosia and Mary Tsosie three Navajo Mohave from Parker pursued teaching degrees through NAU’s evening classes at Togel on the Navajo Reservation. Lena and Maxine advanced to student teaching at Chinle and Wide Rolas while Tsosie, after earning a BS at MAU, works on a masters in special education.
The 1972 presidential race grows prickly as President Nixon and George McGovern exchange barbs on defense and Vietnam policy. McGovern counters by tying Nixon to Watergate disclosures, while Sargent Shriver aids Democrats in Las Vegas and Texas. Shriver’s Las Vegas stop follows a day with Mike O Callaghan and a San Antonio fundraiser near Connally’s ranch.
Arizona’s economy in the first half of 1972 showed broad gains across many indicators per First National Bank of Arizona. PROENIX A leading Israeli medical ecologist and water and environment expert will visit Phoenix this weekend to tour water projects. Prof Hillel Shuval of Hebrew University will be hosted by Mr and Mrs Albert Spector. Shuval will also speak at Vanderbilt University and in Washington. He has consulted with Arizona Governor Williams on shared water development issues.
A University of Arizona scholar argued at Northern Arizona University that humans arrived in North America about 11,500 years ago and, with a small migrating band, rapidly hunted mammoths mastodons and other large animals to extinction within roughly 1,000 years. He contended the predators overwhelmed the fauna as they spread southward, leaving deer and other prey largely unaffected.
