A group from the Museum of Northern Arizona is excavating a two kiva site near Cow Springs on Highway 160. The ruins are dated to about 1050 A.D., according to SUNfoto.

Flagstaff launches the fifth county wide Emergency Medical Care course with 14 local doctors delivering lectures and demonstrations on emergency care. New participants include George N. Gorman R. Lanny Hunter and J. Charles Casebeer as trainers for a 20 hour program prioritizing ambulance personnel police highway workers and school staff.
Public Schools report 8180 students district wide with 177 more after the first days. Mt Elden leads elementary enrollments at 774, Christensen 556, while high schools Flagstaff and Coconino are near 900 and 1046 respectively. East Flagstaff Junior High tops junior highs with 1046 students.
Williams says the district seeks deeper knowledge of problems faced by other districts and potential solutions. He notes racially imbalanced schools but avoids committing to steps toward balance. The Institute may yield a consultant on balance issues. officials disagree on who will provide that help.
