Death Toll Reaches 335 in State Traffic Losses
The Associated Press reports three Arizonans died in separate crashes, lifting the year’s state toll to 338 while last year’s figure at this date stood at 386. Frank W. Spore, 68, of Chandler died in a collision near Wendon on U S 70 early today. Spore’s pickup, driven by Herbert G. Spore, 28, of Montecao, Calif., had a 6 year old passenger who survived. The collision involved a tractor trailer driven by Richard Jennings, 42, of Los Angeles, who said he did not see the pickup in time due to a missing tail light. The pickup overturned. In nearby Coconino County, Melvin E. Oliver, 22, of Williams, died when the car he was driving lost control east of Williams on Perkinsville Road. Passenger Wilbur Hodman of Williams was injured. A 14-year-old, Mary Frances Reed of Flagstaff, died Thursday when the car she was riding in went off the road near the junction of U S 66 and the old Ly 5 highway.
