Newsprint Plant Hit By Strike at Iroquois Falls

About 1,000 United Paperworkers International Union members walked out at the Iroquois Falls division of Abitibi Paper Co after contract talks broke down in Toronto. The strike will further reduce Canadian newsprint supply to U S newspapers, with strikes at Abitibi’s eight other divisions likely to follow. Abitibi mills had been shut for over a week due to a national rail strike preventing print transport.

Murie Named Bank Manager in Flagstaff Office

William M. Murie is named manager of First National Bank of Arizona Flagstaff at 2 East Birch Ave. He succeeds Virgil Swanner who resigned. Murie, an assistant vice president, moved to Flagstaff from Cottonwood after over three years as manager there. He joined FNBA in 1955 in Yuma and has since served Yuma and Prescott as loan officer and assistant manager. Jerry L. Brown will replace Murie in Cottonwood, moving from Pine Grove. Brown is a Winslow native who joined the bank in Arizona.

Arrest Made For Marijuana Possession In Hart Prairie Area

Owen GC Starr 19 Moylan Pa was arrested on marijuana possession charges Thursday by county deputies investigating vandalism in Hart Prairie. A small amount of illegal weed was found in Starrs truck. He will be arraigned in Flagstaff Justice Court later today after graduating from Northern Arizona University. Starr has held roles at three Northern Division bank offices. Rionald D Mackey, now assistant manager of EL Conquistador Tucson, will replace Brown as Pine Grove manager. Mackey joined the bank in 1971 and worked in three Tucson offices.
