Grand Canyon Chapel fund drive targets final completion
Grand Canyon Shrine of the Ages Chapel seeks 66 450 more to finish the inter faith church atop the rim near Grand Canyon National Park. Jack Verkamp leads a three front push with appeals to Grand Canyon Village residents tourists and Northern Arizona donors. Donations to Shrine of the Ages Chapel P O Box 215 Grand Canyon are tax deductible. The project began nearly 20 years ago and Easter 1966 marked its largest push with about 5000 raised.

Mariner 9 Heads for Mars in Record Space Mission
Cape Kennedy Florida AP says Mariner 9 is launched aboard an Atlas-Centaur rocket for a 247 million mile flight to Mars. It aims to enter orbit by November 14 for a three month mission with up to 6500 pictures from 730 miles altitude. Mars 2 and Mars 3 from Russia trail behind.

Audie Murphy Missing in Plane Flight from Atlanta
Audie Murphy and four others are missing after the twin engine Aero Commander departed Atlanta for Martinsville Virginia. The FAA said bad weather near Roanoke hampered searches after the pilot reported a planned landing at 2:40 p.m. Nothing further was heard. Murphy, a World War II hero and postwar film actor, was en route to inspect a Modular Properties plant in Martinsville and consider investment.

Bank Officer James S. Lee Named Flagstaff Chamber President
James S. Lee, vice president and downtown Flagstaff branch manager of the Arizona Bank, was named president to finish the term of J. Delbert Kindred. Lee joined the bank in 1961, held multiple posts in Tucson and Flagstaff, and will serve until December 31. Continental Country Club expansion under way in 300 million project
The Continental Country Co project formerly Bill Johnson Canyon Country Club begins extensive remodeling and expansion costing over 2.5 million. The plan by American Financial Corp unit includes a 200-person restaurant, coffee shop, new bar, improved golf courses, and a 13-hole course upgrade. More than 3,000 lots, a lake, and future stores and trails are planned on 1,300 acres with utilities and paving to be completed by August.
