Viet forces ambush relief column near An Loc

North Vietnamese ambushed a South Vietnamese relief column about 34 miles south of An Loc, killing about 15 soldiers and wounding 80 to 90 as rockets and artillery pounded Highway 3. Kontum air strikes and ground fighting around Kontum continued, with 168 enemy killed and government forces regaining parts of the city. Dat Do and Saigon area saw renewed clashes as Rangers rushed in to reinforce districts.

Page Youth Drowns During Memorial Day Weekend

A Page youth named Walter Farr Noyle, 17, drowned at Lake Powell while swimming toward a floating dock. The incident occurred as Memorial Day crowds toured Grand Canyon National Park and the Colorado River. Authorities blamed tinder-dry forests for closures and noted thousands visited the area.

Multiple Drug Arrests Reported by Public Safety Officers

DPS officers, using warrants signed by Justice of the Peace Joe Garcia, arrested eight people over the weekend in two raids. Three NAU students and one sister were booked for marijuana possession at 800 West City. another four Flagstaff residents were nabbed near Interstate 17 with three kilos of marijuana. To date this year, 50 people have been arrested for narcotics offenses, with 28 listed as NAU students.
