Flagstaff High To Present Diplomas To 86 Seniors Wednesday

Flagstaff High plans a Wednesday diploma ceremony in the school gym for 86 seniors. Madeline Aidhley valedictorian Gerald Heisley salutatorian Charles Rucker and other seniors will receive diplomas. The program includes remarks by Father James Linkneyer and senior activities through the week with honors assemblies and multiple graduates listed.

Yoder and Lindh of the state game and fish commission and the U S regional forester will jointly appraise deer in the North Kaibab Forest north of Grand Canyon. They plan the assessment before the commission meets to set the big game season and will recommend hunting permissions for next fall.

Western Union Strike Ends as Workers Accept Settlement

The AFL Commercial Telegraphers Union says 8,035 Western Union members accepted a strike settlement, ending the walkout at 12:01 a.m. The deal includes pay raises and hours changes pending government rate approval. Messengers gain about 33 cents per hour. overall average pay rises to about $1.73 per hour, with rate hike questions to go to the FCC.

Auto Wrecks Kill Six In Arizona Weekend Toll Rises

A weekend string of Arizona auto wrecks claimed six lives and left several injured. Victims included David Myniecek, 12, in Phoenix, and George Smith, 41, in Taena, plus Mary Baldwin, 71, in a Phoenix crash near Mesa. Several others died or were hurt on U.S. 60, Highway 8, and Route 92 areas, lifting the state fatality toll to 132.

German Peace Contract OK'd

Bonn reports that the United States Britain and France signed a peace contract with Western Germany and welcomed its new role in the effort for peace. About 400 persons attended the ceremony in Thured election hall where Anthony Eden Robe Schuman Dean Acheson and Conrad Adenauer signed the documents. The pact aims to bind 48 million Germans west of the Iron Curtain to a Western community of nations.

Newsprint Cost Up By 810 Per Ton In June

A rate increase of about 810 per ton in newsprint prices will raise the cost to 127 per ton starting June 10 for SUM fran, Powell River Super Co. Ltd. Vancouver BC. The rise from around 61 per ton adds roughly 31,200 annually or 100 per month to SUN'S production costs.

Child Dies in Church Fire at SASABE Church

A church fire last night killed five year old Attmiza Grozea and badly burned Natavidad Valenzuela four. A kerosene lantern on the altar sprayed flammable liquid, igniting the blaze at the SASABE church ceremony. Attmiza died on arrival at St Joseph's Hospital Nogales.

Glendale Man Kills Wife and Takes Own Life

Ernest B. Gunnell, 44, fatally shot his estranged wife Lorane Gunnell, 38, mother of four, then killed himself on a Glendale street. Bystander Arthur Grammont, 3, witnessed a struggle and hearing multiple shots. No inquest will be held.

A Mormon man, Matson, 47, was arrested in Show Lin and released on $1,530 bond pending a preliminary hearing on charges of bigamy and cohabitation with six women.
