Traffic signals easing left turns at Switzer Canyon and Santa Fe
Traffic signals are being installed at Switzer Canyon Drive and Santa Fe Avenue and at Santa Fe Avenue and Fourth Street to ease left turns. Work began in April due to heavy traffic increases making left turns hazardous. The district highway engineer John Chapman said both lights should be operating in about a week.

Navajo Power Plant Walkout Stuns Page Labor
More than 1,100 workers at the Navajo Power Plant in Page walked off the job in a dispute over hiring. A Salt River Project spokesman called the walkout illegal and said deputies would remove three pickets outside the plant. The plant aims to supply power to Southwestern states and aid water delivery for the Central Arizona Project. About 308 of the 1,146 hourly staff are Indians.

Police Probe Attempted Removal of a Light Plane
Flagstaff City Police investigate whether an attempted removal of a plane from Flagstaff Municipal Airport was theft or repossession. Det. Sgt. Gilbert Castro said the damaged aircraft may tally about 2400 dollars after someone used a set of keys from a glove box, fueled it with a credit card and tried to move it before a wind gust tipped it onto its left wing. The owner, president of East Flagstaff, admitted being behind on payments and suggested possible repossession.

Williams signs bills in Arizona legislative session
Gov. Jack Williams signed a batch of bills, including a law setting 19 as the drinking age for most 1B year olds, with Aug. 13 as the effective date. He vetoed a proposal to convert some criminal traffic offenses to civil violations, and also approved measures reshaping northern Arizona legislative districts, funding kidney treatment centers, and allowing school districts to hire their own attorneys. Court Backs Limited Immunity for Witnesses

Two Auto Thefts End With Arrests In City
Police say two cars were stolen late Sunday evening in separate incidents. Alvin G. Kel dy and Michael Loftus owned the vehicles, both crashed. A 17 year old, Tommy Spencer, was found unconscious in the Loftus car after a wreck and later identified Perry H. Johnson as the suspect. Both Spencer and Johnson were booked on grand theft auto charges. Spencer faces driving while intoxicated as well.
