Fort Benning Ga Infantry School continues weeks of intensive training for officer candidates seeking commissions as second lieutenants. Five Negro candidates are enrolled Thomas M Bond Perry Johnson Travis L Banks and Beverly S Scott all selected for outstanding qualifications Bond attended Howard University and the Army Specialized Training Program prior to active duty and engineer training Johnson is 19 with prior Army Air Corps service and is a St Benedict the Moor High School alumnus in Milwaukee where he earned letters in multiple sports.

Negro Troops Return Aboard Three Ships to San Francisco
At San Francisco Port of Embarkation 118 Negro soldiers debarked from the Pacific this past week. They arrived aboard the S S Sea Star General Bundy and Admiral Simms after leaving the 5th Replacement Depot Disposition Center south of Manila. The troops were sent to separation centers to be discharged from service.

Fort Dix NJ salutes Thomas D. Jones of Trenton, a veteran and janitor at Post Headquarters. The World War I veteran has bought U.S. Savings Bonds every month for five years, is sergeant-at-arms for American Legion Post 182, and has two sons—one overseas and one recently discharged. He marked six years on the payroll savings plan in Legion uniform while posing with the band.

QM Company the Only Negro Unit in Italian Theater
The 3570th Quartermaster Truck Company, led by First Lieutenant Pleasant Shack, has been assigned to Rome in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, becoming the sole Negro unit in that command. In an April 12 inspection the outfit earned an excellent rating and moved toward top status in the Rome Area. two of its five initial officers, Theophilus A. Logan and Kendrick J. Pritchett, have been redeployed to the United States.
