State Education Board Rejects U S Funds Plan

The Arizona State Board of Education voted to reject a plan to seek 38 000 in U S funds from the national defense act of 1958 for school guidance counseling and related programs. The meeting also approved forming a statewide advisory committee of educators and laymen to develop curriculum across elementary to junior college levels.

U S Delays Venus Probes and Satellite Flight

Washington reports the United States has postponed three space shots including two Venus probes and an Earth satellite. NASA cites payload and boost vehicle issues. Probes aimed for June now wait at least a month with Venus favorable only in mid January 1961. one probe would study Venus from space and another sought to place an Earth moon in orbit around Venus.

Concert Sunday Arts Week Festival Here

A Sunday afternoon concert May 3 at 4 p.m. will be held in the Arizona auditorium of Flagstaff High School in connection with Arts Week. The public is invited to attend the Northern Arizona Symphony and the free concert. Exhibits will run 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Eastham Education Center with works by Arizona State College Sedona Summer Art Workshop Northern Arizona High Schools and Mrs Mae Sweitzer. Admission is free. The Northern Arizona Symphony conducted by Vernor Kliewer will perform chamber and full works including Bach Teleman Mozart Hovhaness Schumann Stravinsky. Concertmaster Whert Filamaurice will play a Moret Violin Concerto movement.

Flagstaff Graduate Earns Yale Study Fellowship

Edwin A. Cook, Flagstaff high school 1950 graduate, earned two top UA scholastic honors and a Yale graduate fellowship. An anthropology major with sociology minor, he will pursue a Yale PhD in anthropology via a Woollrow Wilson fellowship. Cook rose from Flagstaff ASC to Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi, and Alpha Kappa Delta. He served with the U S Navy 1951 to 1954 aboard ships in the Pacific. He married Nancy Happman of Glendale in 1958. They reside in Pola Village Tucson housing for married veterans students.

New Missile Boss Osmond Lite Remains Dognedness Resilient

In 1943 Lt. Col. Osmond Billand survived a fatal test flight at Wright Air Development Center after a crash that broke his back. Now Brig. Gen. Osmond Jay Lite, 4, is the Air Force’s new missile chief, succeeding Lt. Gen. Bernard Schriever, and has long served as Schriever’s aide in Washington and at Cape Canaveral.

Kinsey School Winners Of Essay Contest On Air Age

Kinsey School announced contest winners for an essay about air age travel. WICHE Backs Medical School For Arizona

Dr Fred Dow Fagg Jr of Pasadena California told the Arizona Medical Association that WICHE would support a proposed medical school in Arizona. He said the group would back any proposals for establishing a state medical school. The remarks came during the association 68th annual convention with nine noted medical educators participating in a panel on medical education.
