Holdridge calls Navajo mass meeting at Window Rock

Brig. Gen. Herbert C. Holdridge, wearing khaki and stars, says he has called a Sunday gathering at the Window Rock tribal fairgrounds to outline charges against Tribal Chairman Paul Jones and Vice Chairman Preston. A tribal spokesman in Window Rock said no meeting was scheduled and no orders were received from Holdridge, while Jones is away at a governors’ meeting in Sioux Falls. Holdridge warned of punishment for violence or noncompliance, and previously arrested Jones and Preston. The Navajo Agency urged Holdridge to stay off the reservation and said no funds were authorized for his activities.

Godfrey Faces Cancer After Chest Tumor Operation

New York AP reports Arthur Godfrey was told the chest tumor removed Thursday was cancerous. He remained in good spirits after transfer from recovery to his hospital room, with doctors noting satisfactory condition though facing an uphill battle for survival.
