29 Families Evicted at Clark Homes in Flagstaff

The Flagstaff Housing Authority ordered 29 families from Clark Homes to move after income surveys showed they no longer qualify for residency. Notices mailed in March grant three months to find new housing as no public housing remains available in Flagstaff.

Sun Spots Raid On U S Base Kills 33 In Da Nang Area

Saigon AP reports Vietnamese sappers attacked a U S artillery base south of Da Nang early Sunday. In under an hour 33 Americans were killed and 76 wounded, the highest U S death toll in a single war incident at a U S installation. U S forces killed 12 attackers, some inside the base and others by helicopter and C 119 gunships. Parts of the base were overrun but remain under American control. A broader U S command said extensive action is ongoing in the area as enemy activity increases in the Da Nang region.

Serious Crimes Up 11 Percent in 1970 FBI Report

Washington AP says serious crimes rose 11 percent in 1970 per a preliminary FBI count across 22 major cities. Violent crimes climbed 12 percent while property crimes gained 10 percent. Seattle showed a drop in all serious crime categories.

Flagstaff Planning and Zoning Commission hosts the third major session of public hearings on the citys proposed zoning ordinance. Flagstaff plans to rebid the remodel of its main branch library after federal pay scale rules prompted a recall. City Manager Leland C. McPherson said a Presidential Proclamation suspending the Tacon-Davis Act requires new bids as union wage requirements were included in the initial call.
