Saigon AP reports Vietnamese sappers attacked a U S artillery base south of Da Nang early Sunday. In under an hour 33 Americans were killed and 76 wounded, the highest U S death toll in a single war incident at a U S installation. U S forces killed 12 attackers, some inside the base and others by helicopter and C 119 gunships. Parts of the base were overrun but remain under American control.
