McGee death sentence upheld in Arizona 1959 case
New trial reports in the Arizona Daily Sun criticize jury selection as exhaustive but the high court finds the appeal weak. McGee was convicted in December 1959 by a Coconino County jury for the knifing of Ary J. Best, a 66 year old Los Angeles businessman met on Route 66 east of Flagstaff on July 31, 1959. Best was killed. McGee faced the death penalty. Mrs. Fain pleaded guilty to second degree murder and received a prison term.
