Court Urged to Halt Test of Surveillance

At a Supreme Court hearing the Justice Department argued the Army overstepped in civilian surveillance begun in 1965, but Griswold said no constitutional or legal violation occurred and the program was halted. Cigarette Ad Ban Upheld by Supreme Court

Supreme Court today upheld the ban on cigarette advertising on radio and television. The court rejected appeals by the National Association of Broadcasters and six broadcasters claiming the ban strains free speech. The ruling affirmed a three judge panel in favor of the blackout and rejected requests for a hearing. The court also declined to review several education and labor related actions including school hair length disputes and wage claim suits by state workers.

Lobbyist Collapses After White House ITT Testimony

Denver AP reports lobbyist Dita D. Beard linked the White House to ITT funding while testifying before a Senate Judiciary subcommittee. She collapsed in her hospital room during the hearing, suffering chest and arm pains as doctors treated her.

A memo written by Anderson for WR Merriam at ITT Washington office is cited after Merriam said the White House called but did not identify who spoke. The committee, led by Richard G. Rosaire Sentenced To One Year In Jail

Timothy J. Rosaire, 25, of 1914 E Mountainview, received a one year jail term and three years probation in a Superior Court sentencing. Judge Laurance Wren called the conduct kleptomania from NAU to city, with restitution required during probation. Rosaire pleaded guilty to theft of a pocket calculator and faced additional charges, while two counts of receiving stolen property remain in Havasu.
