Medicaid To Double Tax Rate In 1976 77
County Finance Director Thomas J. Eckerd presented two draft budgets to the Board of Supervisors showing the impact of a statewide Medicaid program. Without Medicaid the tax rate could fall to about .638 per 100. with Medicaid the rate could rise to about 1.229 per 100. The current budget is just over 11 million with potential increases to 12.87 million or up to 14.77 million depending on Medicaid costs and public works.

Windstorms Leave Death and Damage Across Regions
Violent weekend windstorms and accompanying drops in temperature caused deaths and widespread damage east of the Mississippi.
