National Black Political Convention forms new movement

In Gary Indiana AP reports the first National Black Political Convention ends with a tentative stand against school busing for integration and the visible outcome is the creation of a new movement called the National Assembly, with doubt about becoming a third party. In Tucson a Flowing Wells High School teacher fired on insubordination sues for a new hearing. In Washington Amtrak seeks 170 million dollars more federal aid to survive into mid-1973 as Congress weighs reform and funding.

Rezoning Request Tops Flagstaff Council Agenda

East Flagstaff plans to rezone a parcel east of Fanning Drive near Swiss Road from A 1 to RM M for a possible apartment complex. Sproul Developers backs the move though Planning and Zoning urged do not pass. residents of Swiss Manor protested in force at the last meeting. The council also schedules a hearing on Terco in as the third item.

Flagstaff voters eligible to vote in the General Election Tuesday will choose a mayor to begin April 1 and three city council seats. Incumbent mayor Sylvan L. Varenberg seeks a third term against C. Hughes Author and Wife Admit Roles in Hoax

New York author Clifford Irving and his wife Edith pleaded guilty to federal charges of conspiring to defraud a publisher with a fake Howard Hughes autobiography. They also admitted state counts of grand larceny and conspiracy. co conspirator Richard Suskind pleaded guilty to state charges. Sentencing set for June 16, potential combined penalties up to 17 years in prison and $11,000 in fines for each Irving, with Suskind facing eight years and $1,000.

First Plague Case in Coconino County Reported

Wild animal county records its first recent plague case in Coconino. Health officials urge reporting of sick wild animals as four boys near Flagstaff encountered a sick bobcat on Feb. 22. Tests confirmed plague presence after samples were sent to Phoenix and Fort Calhoun field offices. One of the youths fell ill but recovered.
