Navajo County investigators close in on the fatal shooting of 22 year old Apache Indian Maurice Potter at the Dew Drop Inn in Pinetop after a confrontation with merchant policeman Jon R. Jones. Potter died instantly as Jones fired twice, authorities say. The incident led to an inquest planned in Pinetop with Sheriff L Bens Pearson and County Attorney Edwin Powell on the scene. Potter’s body was taken to Elkhorn Mortuary in Holbrook for arrangements.

California Teen Admits Gruesome Holdup Murders
Dennis Whitney an 11 year old California boy confessed to a spree of holdups and murders, saying he planned to kill a dozen more. He admitted shooting five men and a woman on February 20, including Mrs. Virginia Selby 62, after she was hit with a hammer during a kidnapping in her car. Whitney described the victims as mostly service station attendants and said he would continue until caught.
