The 32 voice chorale from Casa Granite Union High School performs religious selections at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of the First Southern Baptist Church at N. San Francisco St. and Switker Canyon Rd. Hen Day, former Flagstaff resident, directs the 225-member choral department.
Thomas F. Patton and Debra Webb admitted to the hospital as new patients on Friday March 5, with brief notes noting their names and entry status.
Services for Army Spec. 5 Jim E. Barton, 20, who died Feb. 23 in Laos, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church on Lake Mary Road. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery with military graveside rites. Barton was a gunner on a helicopter involved in a midair collision during a combat mission in Laos, his third Vietnam tour. He was born July 14, 1950, in Denver and moved to Flagstaff in 1966 with his parents. He attended Flagstaff High School and joined the Army in January 1959. Surviving are his parents, two sisters, and grandparents. Funeral arrangements were by Flagstaff Mortuary.
The Flags staff Youth Orchestra's second 1970-71 concert drew a moderate crowd and showed growing maturity under conductors Darlene Gilbreth David Nebel and Clarance Shaw. Despite intonation issues and entranc e nerves in oboes the ensemble delivered notable solos and refined passages in works by Hanson and others, earning praise for effort and musical growth.
Williams PTA plans a questions and answers session at the March 11 meeting in the high school library starting at 7 30 p m. Administrators H R Starr Keith Bannister Ed Malone and Miles Cureton will answer school queries. questions may be asked from the floor or submitted in writing via PTA officers or Williams Woman's Club. Third grade room mothers will provide refreshments.
WINSLOW INS Three positions were filled this week on the board of directors of the Industrial Development Endeavor Association. Elected to fill three year terms were Ross Tyler Lucio Ceballos and Charles Carbiener. Holdover members are Robert Schmidt Richard Culbertson William Carver William Boggs Alas Golden Fred Lynde and Thomas Whipple.
California pair Gail Coulbourne age 19 and Nick Cox age 26 pleaded innocent in Superior Court to assault with a deadly weapon grand theft auto robbery and first degree burglary in the February North Dakota motel robbery involving Henry Bastroupil and his wife. They were arrested after Bastroupil struggled free and the couple were stopped in Bastroupil's car. Each defendant is held on $10000 bonds in county jail.
Two Arizona men were arrested after police found 31 pounds of peyote and other drugs in their panel truck. Charles Jorgenson, 24, of Flagstaff, and Charles Marx, 21, of Phoenix, were booked for investigation of illegally possessing drugs for sale. A police spokesman said the trunk matched a burglary description and contained peyote plus small amounts of marijuana and amphetamines. The peyote, valued at about $2,000, is associated with certain Indian rites. The men denied involvement in the burglary.
Area youths win Gold Achievement and Certificate of Merit honors in the Arizona Scholastic Art Exhibit with 451 awards across 16 categories. Northland winners include Greg Dodds Page and Alex Shores Page. Blue Ribbon finalists proceed to New York for national judging and scholarships.
The European Study Tour meeting at Northern Arizona University was postponed from last Monday to this Monday night after travel delays from Phoenix to Flagstaff. Dr. Garland Downum says room 113 Science Building at 7 30 pm will host the session with Mrs. Roswitha Paul from American Express and a Lufthansa Airlines representative on hand to discuss planning and trip preparation. Attending is optional and encouraged.
