Jaycees will sponsor a meet your candidates forum Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Flagstaff High School auditorium. All city mayoral and council candidates will attend. Each candidate will have three to five minutes for opening statements. Written audience questions will follow, then oral questions. Radio coverage is planned for those unable to attend.
An Allegheny Bank Airlines propjet with 49 aboard crashed in light snow while attempting to land in Albany. Seventeen people were killed and about two dozen were injured, as the plane struck a two story ranch house, tearing it apart.

The Associated Press reports two prison escapees were arrested in Arizona on Friday after separate robberies. McDonald Burton Wood, 33, of San Diego, allegedly robbed a variety store for $50 and was caught by Tempe police. he faced robbery and marijuana possession charges. McCabe, 27, linked to escaping a Harrisburg prison a month earlier, was arrested by Paradise Valley police after an alleged motorist robbery. Whitehead, who gave McCabe a ride, described being forced into the desert before McCabe surrendered after being fired upon by Whitehead's father.

Greenlaw Jewelers on Fourth Street reports a watch worth 265 dollars stolen Friday afternoon. Police say two men operated as a duo, entering the store to view watches before one distracted staff while the other demanded service in a different area, then both left with the timepiece.
The Sherwin Williams Co plans a Flagstaff branch at 2621 Eastth Ave with 2800 square feet of floor space. The store will serve as a retail outlet and service center for painting contractors, opening April 1 under local broker Steves and Steves Investment Co. WW Williams, regional director, cites growth and need for complete paint and color service in the area.
Governor Reagan announced a three year pilot program in 35 northern California counties requiring able bodied men and women ages 18 to 65 to work or lose welfare grants starting April 1. Recipients will perform unskilled jobs with no extra pay for up to 20 hours weekly and face removal from welfare if they refuse. The federal HEW will monitor as another state pilots similar to a New York project.
Police arrested 15 year old Christopher J Ford of Scottsdale on a first degree burglary charge after a Flagstaff Security Patrolman reported seeing Ford near the Pipe Shop. The patrolman heard glass breaking and found a front door window broken but no loss occurred.
Governor Jack Williams signed a dusk to dawn headlight law replacing the previous half hour after sunset rule and a measure permitting double-county incorporation. The latter allows Sexdowa to incorporate though spanning Yavapai and Coconino counties.
