Colton Remembered For Arts Advocacy In Flagstaff
Mrs. Colton founded the Junior Indian Art Show at the Museum and helped launch the Hopi Craftsman Show and Navajo Craftsman Show. She aided modern Hopi jewelry design, studied Hopi silver work, and supported numerous art organizations. Born 1889 in Louisville, she studied in Philadelphia, married in 1912, and settled in Flagstaff in 1926 where she shaped local art and museum life. Survived by son Captain J Ferrell Colton, two granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren.
