Cadillac-Riding Farmer Smith Faces Wheat Penalty

Vanner William J. Smith of Big Flats New York faces a $2184 fine for planting 21 acres in wheat last year and 71 acres over his 124 acre allotment, as the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee presses a wheat quota violation. Smith, who drove a Cadillac to Washington and drew support from Senator Barry Goldwater, plans an appeal to the state review committee.

Maryland Man Killed in U S 66 Crash Near Houck

A Maryland man John T Attenisia, 30, died from chest injuries after a single vehicle crash on U S Highway 66 about four miles east of Houck. Investigators say fatigue may have contributed as the car drifted left, went into a barrow pit, and struck an embankment. The death raised the state toll to 269 for the week.

Black Canyon Highway Dedication Plans Mapped by Sedona Committee

Sedona crowd reports that a steering committee of the Black Canyon Highway Association met to map a Sept. 10 dedication at Fort Tuthill, Camp Verde to Flagstaff. Democratic senators clash over military speech memo

Two Democratic senators, J William Fulbright of Arkansas and Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, spar over a confidential memo Fulbright sent to Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara objecting to military sponsorship of meetings featuring outsiders and extremist speeches. ASC 248 High School Musicians Concert Tonight

Forty eight musicians from four high schools attended the first camp at Arizona State College present a 7:30 pm concert in the college auditorium.
