Western Knapp Engineering Co of San Francisco receives a 1,083,800 contract Thursday to build the giant telescope at Kitt Peak west of Tuakon. Westinghouse will handle the mountings and 80 inch mirror, with Allison Steel shaping 500 tons of steel for the 102 foot tower. Work begins Monday, tunneling for four months and 2,000 yards of concrete in three more, with a total project around four million dollars and completion in 14 to 18 months.
