Warehouse plan eyed for surplus food storage in Northern Arizona
NADEC Executive Director Leon Berger told the Coconino County Advisory Board Moray night that a formal bid to build a food warehouse is unlikely to gain traction. He outlined a proposed smaller facility in Coconino County with another in Holbrook to serve Navajo and Apache counties, and announced a 4 acre farm purchase with more land plans while stressing the need to tackle inadequate nutrition. Emergency Food and Medical Services Director William Coston will attend the Thursday meeting on the storage issue, as current storage limits force underutilization of available commodities.

Alden W. McCanless was sworn in Monday as the new IRS director in Arizona replacing retired George Patterson. Winslow reported a new all time high of 109, with previous highs of 106 reached on July 12, 1958, June 26, 1970, and this week. Forecasts call for 108 today with scattered afternoon lightnings and dry thunderstorms in Flagstaff and yesterday’s high in that area.

Forest Fires Fall After Full Closure at Coconino
The Coconino National Forest closure to nonessential entry has cut man caused fires nearly in half. Since July 2 seven fires have been reported nine by man one by lightning. Fire danger remains extreme as lack of moisture and high temperatures persist.

Ex-Post Editor Robert Murphy Dies in Prescott
Robert W. Murphy 68 former senior editor of the Saturday Evening Post died early Tuesday in Yavapai Community Hospital after a brief illness. He lived in Prescott since June 1968 moving from Flagstaff and authored nature books including Wild Sanctuaries. Survived by wife Jean daughter Molly Jean son Robert Shane Murphy and sister Elizabeth Boardman. Services will be private and cremation will follow per Ruffner Funeral Home Prescott.
